Children’s Sunday School Department News:
Our Children’s Sunday School Department is raising funds to support the building of a children’s home in Haiti. The home is being built in memory of Janet Martens, Fran Redekop’s sister.
Jan died this past September and a memorial fund was set up in her name with an organization called “Hungry For Life”. Jan’s son, Ian, works for the organization which matches resources in the developed world to needs in the developing world.
They have partnered with an organization in Haiti called “Joy in Hope” to build this home. Ian and Jan’s husband and numerous other family members and friends plan to go to Haiti in November to begin building.
Many people were inspired by Jan during her 26 year struggle with a brain tumor that kept growing back after radiation, chemotherapy and multiple brain surgeries. When she was diagnosed at the age of 30, her prayer was that she could live to raise her two sons who were 4 and 5 at the time. She knew that no one could love them as much as she would. Her prayer was granted. Her “boys” are now 30 and 31, both happily married and in meaningful careers of service. Our family is so grateful to God for answering her prayer.
A children’s home is a fitting legacy to a mother who endured many years of pain and suffering to care for her children, not wanting them to be without the love of their mother.
We are attempting to fill a water jug with spare change for this cause. If you would like to contribute to the building of this children’s home in Haiti, we invite you to help us fill the water jug with your spare change whenever you see the jug. Thank you so much! The jug will be in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings and in the fellowship room on Wednesday evenings.
